- chopped pecans - chop finely, or use a rough chop if you like a chunky texture
My family loves waking up on Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas morning with the scent of cinnamon rolls with apple pie filling the air. This is my go-to recipe on holidays because I can whip it up the night before and pop it in the oven the next morning. It's super easy to make with kids too, which makes the holidays even more fun! 🎉

As soon as chilly mornings arrive, it's time to start baking at my house! Any time you're in the mood for southern comfort food, cinnamon rolls and apple pie is the perfect choice to satisfy your cravings. The combination is so good, I've added it to my weekly breakfast menu in the fall!
You can stick with this easy recipe, or make it your own by adding dried fruits, different nuts, and sprinkling it with sweetened coconut. There's really no rules!

Step by Step Instructions
- STEP 1 - Take the cinnamon roll dough out of the tube. Slice each roll into 4 pieces with a sharp knife and set aside the cups of icing for later.

- STEP 2: Spray the bottom of a 13 x 9 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and spread out pieces evenly.

- STEP 3: Pour both cans of apple filling on top of cinnamon roll pieces. Use a spoon to coat all of the pieces.

- STEP 4: Sprinkle pecans on top and slightly stir into the apple mixture. (If pecans are left dry they may get too crunchy.)

- STEP 5: Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes.

- STEP 6: Microwave the icing for 5 seconds so it will be easy to pour, or allow it to reach room temperature. Drizzle icing over rolls and serve warm.

Variations
- Add spices like ground cinnamon, ginger, allspice or pumpkin pie spice for additional flavor.
- Stir in raisins, dried cranberries or apricots for extra sweetness.
- Substitute different nuts such as almonds, walnuts or pistachios. Or, omit the nuts altogether.
- Use caramel syrup instead of icing for intense caramel apple flavor.
- Make your own cream cheese frosting to spread on top.
- Use fresh apples and cook them with brown sugar and melted butter if you don't have a can of apple pie filling.
