This is the best Calico Beans Recipe that always gets rave reviews! Made with four types of canned beans in a savory barbecue sauce, it’s the perfect vegetarian side dish for picnics, holidays, and family gatherings.
Mix all ingredients together in the biggest baking dish or skillet you've got.
1 can 15 oz pork and beans, undrained, 1 can 15 oz black beans, undrained, 1 can 15 oz white navy beans, undrained, 1 can 15 oz kidney beans, undrained, ¼ cup brown sugar, ½ cup green onions, ½ cup sweet red pepper, ¼ cup fresh cilantro, 1 cup zesty BBQ sauce, ¼ cup yellow mustard, 1 Tbsp. stone ground mustard, 1 Tbsp. hot sauce, ½ teaspoon steak seasoning
Bake for 1 hour until a light crust forms on top.
Let rest for 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
This is a vegetarian side dish if you used vegetarian beans.
To make Cowboy Beans, add ½ cup cooked and crumbled bacon or ground beef before baking.
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container and refrigerated for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave on high for 1 minute, or warm in a 350 degree oven.
