Take one sip of this rich and creamy Peppermint White Hot Chocolate and you’ll be whisked away to a snowy mountain top. Well, maybe not, but you’ll be one step closer to white chocolate bliss!
In a saucepan on the stovetop, add white chocolate chips and stir constantly over medium-low heat until it starts to melt. Make sure it doesn’t boil. You can also use a double boiler if preferred.
Slowly pour in the milk and continue stirring over medium low heat. Once the chocolate has completely melted, stir in the heavy cream.
Remove from heat and stir in the peppermint or vanilla extract. (Start with ½ teaspoon of extract and taste, then add the rest if needed.)
Pour white chocolate cocoa into your favorite mug and enjoy with optional toppings like whipped cream, crushed candy canes and miniature marshmallows.
Notes
Take care not to burn the white chocolate when melting it in a saucepan. To prevent this, you can use a double boiler or a glass bowl over a saucepan filled with hot water. This method allows the heat from the steam of the water to melt the white chocolate without direct contact with the stove.
Use whole milk and heavy cream for the thickest cocoa possible.
Start with ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract and taste before adding the other half. Some folks prefer a smaller amount.
